about

Tuning: EBDGBE (capo II). Chris wrote this while visiting his father in London over Christmas 1997. Again about spiritual seeking, buddhist-style renunciation of worldly things, and what it might be like communicating from the afterlife..

Now that the pillow talk is over
A flurry of feathers falls back to the ground.
I've said my peace and packed up my vision
But before I leave let me hear the sound...

Of your voice in the ear of my endless surprise
And the makeshift redemption that I give to your eyes.

Now that the honeymoon is waning
Into a sweet light that couldn't be found,
Together well choose a pattern of breathing
Its almost unreal when I hear the sound...

Of my voice in the ear of your endless surprise
And the makeshift redemption that you give to my eyes.

Well, looking up now from the page,
Light bleeds acid on the cage…

Feeling so low.
When I've been lost,
I will soon be found.

Now that the child is of understanding
Grown inch by inch and pound for pound,
We all are ready to see there's no gone away
Just come back to the bridge and Ill hear the sound…

Of your voice in the ear of my endless surprise
And the makeshift redemption that I give to your eyes.

about

Val Holler New York, New York

Val Holler is the artist name for singer/songwriter Chris Knudson primarily from the mid-1990s to early 2000s, while based in New York, Los Angeles and Berlin, Germany. It was a result of Chris being born with a phonetically challenging last name (he pronounces the "K" in Knudson), and finding a musical identity that mixes Scandinavian lore (Valhalla) and southern "hollerin'." ... more
